Nestled in the scenic Shawangunk Valley of western Orange County, the Village of Otisville has a rich history dating back to the early 1800s. The community was first settled around 1816 and was named for Isaac Otis, an early merchant and prominent local resident who helped shape the growing hamlet.
Throughout the nineteenth century, Otisville developed as a small but vibrant rural community serving the surrounding agricultural region. The arrival of the railroad brought new opportunities for commerce and travel, connecting residents to larger markets and contributing to the Village's growth and prosperity.
Otisville was officially incorporated as a village in 1921, giving residents local control over municipal services and governance. Since that time, generations of residents have worked together to preserve the Village's small-town character while meeting the changing needs of the community.
Today, Otisville remains a close-knit community known for its historic charm, strong civic spirit, excellent public services, and beautiful natural surroundings. While honoring its heritage, the Village continues to look toward the future, providing a welcoming place to live, work, and raise a family in the heart of Orange County.
